Ladies of the 1960s were still wearing the straight fitting sheath skirt or pencil skirt. Some continued to wear full gathered or pleated swing skirts that came to knee length. The 1960s fashion world was in for a shock, however, when the’60s mini skirt first came out.
The short ’60s mini skirt was quickly adopted by the young and rebellious, who wore them with matching bright colored tights or high knee socks. Plaid was the most popular print followed by big checks and large dots. The reversible wool plaid pleated skirt was an icon for many school girls. Corduroy, tweed, and denim were also a big deal in winter.
